Parents, we need two kinds of workers:
We appreciate the tremendous help each team gives us the weekend of the meet. It takes more than 500 volunteers to make SMI a successful event every year, and we have been so blessed to have received the great outpouring of help you all give each year.

Regular Team Workers
Contact your Team Representative for information on how to volunteer for a regular worker shift at SMI.
Each team's entries will determine the number of workers assigned to each team. ‘Normal’ jobs (timers, marshals, scribes, etc.) will be assigned on a team-by-team basis according to the ratio of swimmers your team has entered each day.
Normal worker changes will occur every 12 to 15 events. We will attempt to assign teams the same job for the entire day.
Except for "Trained/Certified" jobs, teams may break up their jobs as they wish as long as the shift is covered and worker changes are smooth. Each worker MUST attend the Worker Meeting.
If you are an experienced "Trained/Certified" GKAISA volunteer, see that information block below.
Regardless of job assignments, all workers are to report to the 8:15 am Worker Meeting at the start of each day. Workers are REQUIRED to report to their assigned location 2-3 heats before their shift begins.
The Team Worker Schedule will be posted online on or before the Monday before the Invitational begins.
Trained/Certified Workers
Each year we need the following volunteers: Stroke & Turn Judges, Ref Certified Chief Judges, Starters and trained Head Timers. Also needed are two or three experienced Meet Manager and Meet Maestro computer operators.
Certified Jobs are broken down into (approximately) three-hour shifts:
Day 1 (Saturday)
- Shift 1 - Events 1 - 18
- Shift 2 - Events 19 - 33
- Shift 3 - Events 33 - 52
Day 2 (Sunday)
- Shift 1 - Events 53 - 64
- Shift 2 - Events 65 - 74
- Shift 3 - Events 74 - 86 (plus Coaches Relay)

When the appropriate date according to the SMI calendar has been reached, the Trained and Certified Workers Availability Forms will open. Trained volunteers may use this form to give their availability for specific shifts at SMI. The form link is also found on the SMI website's "All You Need To Know" page and closes when entries are due according to the timeline.
